Short Biography and Current Developments

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with an anticipated graduation date of May 2013. Following my undergraduate studies, I seek to pursue graduate studies in public health. Within the area of public health, I am interested in epidemiology. I aspire to earn my PhD in epidemiology focusing on the prevention of chronic and infectious diseases. After my studies, I seek to work with a government entity using an epidemiological approach to reduce health disparities and study environmental health. I hope to help develop policies or preventative programs to resolve the public health concerns within a population or community; however, I want to approach the problems as an individual with a research background because I think that knowledge would be vital to transitioning towards a solution.

I am currently working in an biochemistry lab with Dr. Margaret Kanipes. My focus is on the biosynthesis of lipopolysaccharide in Cronobacter sakazakii which is known to be virulent in infants.
